How To Make Money In Los Angeles

Are you looking to make extra money in Los Angeles? I don't have to be the one to tell you that living in LA can get expensive real quick! Luckily, living in Los Angeles does provide ample opportunities to make money with several different side hustles. These are all things that I have tried myself and have had varying degrees of success with.

Audience Work

I have made a decent amount of money from doing audience work. Most months I cover my car payment with just a handful of shows. This is easy work but it can be a bit draining when you do it for a lengthy show. My favorite show to do audience work for is The Real. They tape at 6am. You are almost always done before 10am and will leave with anywhere from $40-$60. The reason this show is my favorite is while I hate waking up early I still have time in my day to pursue other work. You can read more about the audience work here.

Background Work

Background work just like anything else in the entertainment industry is incredibly unpredictable. Some weeks will have multiple days of work for you while other weeks will have nothing. But, anyone can sign up with Central Casting in Burbank and even if they only need you for a few hours on set they have to pay you for 8 hours.

DoorDash & Postmates are two of many food delivery companies that you can sign up for and control how much you work. One thing that is nice about DoorDash is that when a job appears it will tell you upfront what your payment will be. The biggest downside to DoorDash is that they have people pre tip. Tips tend to be better on postmates but with postmates you don't know upfront how much you'll make.

Lyft

Personally, Lyft is the one that I like the least out of all of these options. It made me feel uncomfortable having males that I did not know alone in my car with me. I also did not appreciate people who wouldn't warn me that they had dogs and would make me feel obligated to still take them. Some people love this type of work but I do not. However, if you'd like to sign up please use my referral code MICHELLE080876.

Apps To Help You Earn Money From Your Phone

Swagbucks

If you sign up for either company through Swagbucks you'll get points to redeem for PayPal or other gift cards if you make at least one delivery within 30 days of signing up. Currently, you'll get 2270 ($22) points for Postmates and 5000 ($50) for DoorDash. Swagbucks is worth joining even if you don't want to do deliveries. You can earn points for signing up for various trials, completing surveys, playing their trivia game and more. Points can be redeemed for PayPal cash, gift cards and more!

Surkus

surkus

Surkus is not an app that can help you get rich but, it is still one of my favorite ways to make extra money in Los Angeles. Surkus pays you to attend select events around town. Not all events are paid but it is also great for saving money by getting into some places for free. Plus, for every friend you recommend, you'll earn $5 once they attend their first event. In addition to inviting you to events, you can also test products for money. You can read more about Surkrus here and sign up for it here.

Markk App

The goal of Markk is to provide live ratings of restaurants, stores and more. Before you go somewhere you search for it on the app to see if anyone has markked it. If they have you swipe up to markk that you are going. Then, if you can go within 24 hours you get 15 points or after 24 hours you get 5 points when you rate it. There are 3 options for rating places. You can rate it nope, okay or dope. They prefer if you add text or a sticker to your photo or video.

When I first joined before Covid 19, prizes were available that were excellent. I was saving my points for a trip to Catalina. After the pandemic began they changed their prizes to gift cards. So far I have redeemed over $100 in gift cards. You can find my Markk page here.

Perksy

With this app you are given stacks which are questions to answer. I will be honest and say that the stacks unfortunately, do not come often at all. I have been using this for several months and still do not have enough points to redeem anything. That being said though when I do get enough points there are a lot of good gift cards to choose from. You can download perksy here.

Bing Rewards

Doing searches on Bing can earn you points to redeem for AMC, Starbucks, Target gift cards, and more. You can sign up for Bing Rewards here.

On The Go Surveys

These might be limited for a while as typically you are asked about places you've visited but I've also done surveys about what I'm watching on Tv. You can cash out via PayPal once you've reached $10. I've earned over $40 since using this app.

Eureka

This survey app rewards the person with the best answers. But everyone earns something for filling out the surveys. You can redeem via PayPal once you reach $10.

DaysTaker

With this app you earn points for downloading apps and testing them out for 3 minutes. I've made $42 so far with this one.

Voxpopme

You can earn money from this app by recording video responses to questions. I'll be honest and say I haven't made much money on this one yet but my friend made $85 from this app this month alone. You can download voxpopme here.

iSecretShop

I only started doing secret shopping for about a month before quarantine began so I don't have much experience. I made $150 in one month from three shops. You can sign up here.
